When winter descends on Merano, the city is infused with a sense of calm: the snow-capped mountains glisten in the sun, the fire crackles away in the relaxation room and the glowing lights adorn the Christmas market stands. High time for enchanting city walks, excursions out into the snowy landscape and a spot of “hibernation” at the spa and thermal baths.

Sports-mad visitors will want to head to Merano 2000. Quick and easy to access, this ski and hiking area towers over the city with a wide variety of slopes, cross-country ski trails, toboggan runs and winter paths. Be sure to drop in at one of the ski huts for a revitalising mug of hot punch! There are also many additional ski areas in the surrounding region that feature great snow conditions and thrilling slopes. And if you’re lucky, you might even get to see the city blanketed in white...
