Merano Grape Festival
18.10. - 20.10.2019

The oldest harvest celebration in South Tyrol

The traditional Merano Grape Festival will take place from 18 to 20 October 2019. It is the oldest harvest celebration in South Tyrol, which takes place annually after the hard work on the fields to celebrate the end of the grape vintage.

The Merano Grape Festival is a traditional experience that attracts numerous visitors – locals and tourists.
The Sunday parade is the highlight of the Merano Grape Festival. It’s a walk through the streets of the old town of Merano where you can admire elaborately decorated carriages, marching bands, folk dance groups, brass ensembles and national costume guilds from all across South Tyrol as well as Germany, Switzerland and the Trentino. The main aim of the event is to preserve the local traditions.
The traditional festival parade starts at Porta Venosta, follows the Via delle Corse, il Corso della Libertà, reaches the river Passirio and ends at Piazza del Teatro.

The “Grape Festival Market” is located on the river promenade and offers typically local products. Also this year the visitors of the festival will be spoilt by the culinary specialties. At the numerous food stands the local products can be tasted and acquired.
Beside the tradition, the music, the good wine and the local dishes you can admire also the colorful and historical costumes.

The first edition of this traditional event goes back to the year 1886 as the local author Karl Wolf implemented the idea of a grape festival together with the former health resort director Friedrich Lentner.
